Guillermo del Toro Calls This Must-Watch Horror-Comedy on Hulu “Suspenseful, scary and fun”

I have always appreciated an actor who is committed to appearing in genre fare even after their star begins to rise. For instance, Maika Monroe has made a name for herself in the horror space, yet she continues to return to the genre time and again. Samara Weaving has had a similar career trajectory. She has made a name for herself via noteworthy appearances in horror pictures like The Babysitter and Mayhem, yet, rather than pivoting to more mainstream roles, Weaving keeps coming back to the horror genre.
I appreciate her loyalty to the horror scene, especially considering that Weaving has substantial talent and versatility. There’s no doubt in my mind that she could break out into more mainstream roles if she so desired. Speaking of her endless appeal, Guillermo del Toro was quite taken with the actor’s standout turn in a celebrated horror comedy and shared his appreciation for the picture via Twitter (X).
The Crimson Peak director’s tweet reads: “The trailers and materials for Ready or Not didn’t prepare me for how suspenseful, scary and fun it is- smart, Samara Weaving is terrific in it!”
What’s the setup for Ready or Not?
Grace (Weaving) couldn’t be happier after she marries the man of her dreams at his family’s luxurious estate. There’s just one catch — she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her down with guns, crossbows, and other weapons. As Grace desperately tries to survive the night, she soon finds a way to turn the tables on her not-so-lovable relatives.

I had a similarly enthusiastic reaction to Ready or Not when I first checked it out, and I enjoy it just as much upon each return visit. It’s a quirky, brutal, and unpredictable film that features a talented ensemble cast. In addition to Weaving, the flick also stars Adam Brody, Elyse Levesque, Mark O’Brien, Henry Czerny, Nicky Guadagni, and Andie MacDowell.
If the stellar cast and del Toro’s heartfelt endorsement have you eager to take in the flick, you will be pleased to learn that you can find it streaming on Hulu now.
