Major ‘Gears of War’ Development: Draft Complete, Netflix 100% Behind Project
Gears of War is a brutal, blood-soaked shooter, packed with monstrous enemies and relentless, hellish combat… imagine Predator set in a war-torn underworld.
Nearly a year ago, David Leitch entered negotiations to direct a feature adaptation for Netflix with Jon Spaihts (Dune, Prometheus) penning the screenplay.
In a new interview with Collider, Leitch revealed they have an official working draft and that Netflix is 100% behind it.
“Gears of War, I think, is going to happen,” he told the site. “We have a great draft that’s in progress that’s in really great shape. The studio’s more determined than ever to make it. Netflix is 100% behind it. The Coalition is fired up, as well. They have their game releasing this year, as well, and so it’s all lining up that that movie will happen.”
No cast or release date yet, but Dave Bautista is still pushing hard to play Marcus Fenix, publicly and behind the scenes, with Netflix.
Gears of War follows humanity’s desperate struggle against the Locust Horde, subterranean creatures that emerged 14 years after the “Pendulum Wars” and brought humanity to the brink of extinction.
