Directed by Jordan Barnes-Crouse

I guess the old saying’s true: you can’t look a gift container in the lid…or something like that. In Jordan Barnes-Crouse’s 5 minute short, Ghost Can, the effects of a Pandora’s Box-like “prize” lead to some very interesting results.

Josie (Hansen) and Peter (Weeks) are a couple on a date at a carnival, and the only thing that is more barren than the crowd is Josie’s interest in her companionship for the evening. As they’re ready to leave, Peter offers up the chance to win his date one more prize, this time at the tent of a mysterious carny (Crowley), who awards Peter a most interesting reward – a dented, dusty old can that’s said to house a most malevolent spirit – I think I’d have opted for a stuffed flamingo.

The short film visually looks impressive, and with a bit of generated graphics, makes for a fun watch if you’re looking for a quickie to pass the time. Is it frightening or ground-breaking? Not by a long shot, but I could see this one best suited for a Halloween marathon – give it a look when it finds its way to you.
