Sweet HollowStarring Alice Kremelberg, Sean Patrick Folster, Ryan Vigilant

Directed by Sean Lee

Sometimes you simply cannot rely on the kindness of strangers, and no truer words could have been typed in the case of Sean Lee’s creepy quickie, Sweet Hollow – simplistic, yet so unnerving – this one was a winner for sure.

It would be a cruel disservice to blow all the details on this one, so I’ll keep it short and sweet: A dark and deserted stretch of back road is the setting, and a flat tire has tossed a wrench in the plans of Emily’s (Kremelberg) visit to her sister’s place. Enter the all-too-happy-to-assist White Knight himself, James (Vigilant). He’s smooth, he’s obviously in the right place at the right time… but something here just doesn’t seem copacetic. According to local tales, the particular road in question is supposedly tied to some supernatural activity, but is Emily’s imagination simply overreacting to the current state of affairs, or is she really in the middle of a paranormal hotspot?

Lee’s direction is the focal point here – he doesn’t focus on one sole aspect in the short’s abbreviated runtime; yet, you feel as if you’re sitting in the passenger seat of Emily’s ride, waiting for something bad to happen. With low lighting to display what may be lurking outside the car and an overwhelming sense of uneasiness, the mood and display of action are more than enough to get those hairs on the back of your neck to salute.

Well worth the watch if you get the opportunity. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll use this quickie to reinforce my decision to re-up my AAA membership.
