We’re less than two months away from the release of Insidious Chapter 3, which will serve as a prequel to the two previous films. Where does the franchise go from here should the new film prove a success at the box office? Writer/director/star Leigh Whannell has an idea so read on!
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Whannell strongly hinted that we may soon be in store for several additional prequels to the first two Insidious films, centering on other cases investigated by the ghost-busting trio we first met in 2010.
“This third film really sets up the Insidious universe to go on, if it was successful enough,” said the filmmaker. “Now you have Elise, the central character, as a medium, and she has her two kind of bumbling assistants, and you have all these years between the third film and the first movie: You’ve got 2009, 2010. Great years! I can imagine [it] being set up as almost a James Bond-esque franchise where Elise goes into different situations with different families and is fighting or defeating these different demons. As far as it actually happening? I’m not sure yet.”
Insidious Chapter 3 will be hitting theaters on June 5, 2015. It stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and writer/director Leigh Whannell.
The newest chapter in the terrifying horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.
