Ah, The Ring. Such a storied history. We told you that an American reboot was on its way, and today we have the first bit of casting news for you to circle around.

The Wrap is reporting that Italian actress Matilda Lutz (pictured) has been cast as the female lead in F. Javier Gutierrez’s horror movie Rings, which serves as the next chapter in the popular franchise.

Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing the horror film, which will once again feature Samara and a deadly videotape.

Based on a Japanese cult success, the first U.S. film went on to gross $249 million at the worldwide box office. That was enough to justify a sequel, which didn’t match the first one’s B.O. power but still grossed $160 million worldwide despite sucking CG deer dick.

Stay tuned for more as it comes.
