Frightfest Prepares for the Horrorshow
Five up-and-coming directors from the UK whom you’ve probably never heard of have gotten together and created an anthology that, but all early accounts, is one of the coolest collections of shorts the horror world has seen in a while. So we’re going to give you the first word on it, cause we love you that much.
The film is called, simply, Horrorshow and will be debuting at London’s Film4 Frightfest on August 25th. All five of the sick minds who created this have been involved in our genre in one form or another for a while now, but this is the first time they’ve gotten together to create something just for us. If the early hype is to be believed (and it comes from sources whom I trust implicitly), this sucker’s gong to kick our collective ass.
Norman J. Warren, director of such low-budget favorites as Horror Planet and Alien Prey, has official hosting duties for Horrorshow and has some kind words of his own for it: “Hosting Horrorshow has been great fun, and I’ve really enjoyed working with all concerned. With a style reminiscent of horror films of the 70’s and 80’s, each of the short films tells a story of terror in its own unique way, and made with skill and great affection for the genre. Horrorshow presents five excellent short horror films, made by five talented film makers, and I’m very pleased, and honored to be associated with them.”
Over the course of only 30 minutes (!) the following five shorts promise to take horror fans to a very good place indeed.
Ben Robinson’s “Neon Killer” – As two grizzled detectives face the twilight of their careers, the identity of the sadistic maniac who has eluded them for decades is revealed.
Ben Steiner’s ”The Flea” – A psychotic would-be vampire hunter tries to coax his erstwhile partner back into the fold for one last slaying.
Sophie Cowles’ – ”Smile” – A young woman discovers that a harsh breakup can leave a lasting impression.
Giles Edwards’ ”The Incursion” – An intruder turns up more than he bargained for in a house full of dark secrets.
David W. Hall’s ”The Initiation” – A trip far outside the city limits leads a young couple to a place where arcane rituals have replaced all reason…
Color me impressed. Again, early word on this mini anthology has been overwhelmingly positive, but the real test will be to see how it does with the notoriously picky Frightfest crowd on the 25th. Keep it here for more details and a full Horrorshow review very soon!
