We first told you about a sequel to Eric England’s Contracted (review) back in April, and with the passage of time fresh details have come. Read on for the 411 on Contracted: Phase II!
Deadline is reporting that IFC Midnight is springing for the sequel. Writer-director Eric England’s first film was an original low-budget take on the zombie genre about a young woman in rapid decay after picking up an icky, mysterious disease from a one-night stand. The sequel continues where Contracted left off, as newly-infected Riley (Matt Mercer) scrambles to track down those responsible for the outbreak and discovers a larger conspiracy that threatens to infect the world.
England’s not involved in the follow-up, which is already in production in LA; he’s currently filming indie comedy Get the Girl. Instead, BoulderLight Pictures producers J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules tapped new blood to helm the sequel, hiring newcomer Josh Forbes to direct from a script by first-timer Craig Walendziak.
Contracted co-stars Matt Mercer and Alice MacDonald are back, joined by Peter Cilella, Marianna Palka, Morgan Peter Brown, Laurel Vail, Anna Lore, and Suzanne Voss in a follow-up that ups the ante and expands on the first film’s modestly scaled origins.
