First Word on NZ Creature Flick Amatu
It seems like it’s been a long time since we had a good creature feature, no? I really can’t remember the last one, but then I’ve only had one cup of coffee so far … Twitch Film got word of a new monster movie coming from New Zealand that definitely sounds like it’s worth keeping one eye on.
The film is called Amatu and promises to blend New Zealand legend with Japanese influences, a combo that makes me all tingly for its sheer oddness alone. Here’s the crunchy plot breakdown via the Puchon International Film Festival site, where the film was just accepted:
”On the second day of their trek, a group of travelers bump into Raymond, an ex-cop who has taken his ‘infected’ son deep into the Amatu Ranges in an attempt to keep his ‘problem’ under wraps. This ‘problem’ causes his son Leo to become a creature that has to feed on human flesh to survive. This nocturnal abomination infects those who are bitten with the same cursed blood. Raymond is too weak to kill his son and end the curse, so he must hunt and destroy the people Leo has infected.”
Simple concept, but man, does it sound cool. The film is the product of directors Marc and Paul Swadel, Butobase and Headstrong, the production company behind The Devil Dared Me To. Keep it here for more info as it comes in!
