We hit the black carpet last evening in Hollywood, CA, for the Screamfest World Premiere of director Jack Heller’s feature film Dark Was the Night and brought back a photo gallery from the event. Read on!

With the 14th Annual Screamfest Horror Film Festival currently under way at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood, CA, Heller’s feature debuted to a packed and vocally enthusiastic audience, who buzzed about the film following the screening.

In attendance were director Heller, writer Tyler Hisel, and Dark Was the Night cast members Kevin Durand (“The Strain”), Bianca Kajlich (Halloween: Resurrection), Sabina Gadecki, Billy Paterson, and Heath Freeman (“Bones”). Film legend Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Near Dark) too made an appearance, as did Kevin Connolly of “Entourage” fame.

Produced by Heller, Dallas Sonnier, Stefan Nowicki, Dylan K. Narang, and Joey Carey, Dark Was the Night revolves around (according to the official synopsis) “a long slumbering evil (which) is awoken in the trees, outside the remote town of Maiden Woods. Isolated and threatened, it sets its sites on the townspeople as Sheriff Paul Shields attempts to overcome the demons of his past so that he may protect those that he loves.”

It’s a taut, well crafted, and acted film so distribution shouldn’t be far off for this one (check out the trailer below).

Not to rest on his laurels, Heller is currently hard at work producing the now shooting Western Bone Tomahawk, which stars Kurt Russell (The Thing), Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring), Sean Young (Blade Runner), David Arquette (Scream), Matthew Fox (World War Z), and Sid Haig (The Devil’s Rejects), which the filmmaker promised to be “a bloody thrill ride.”

Additionally on hand for the festival’s following Short Film Block was Naked Zombie Girl writer and director Rickey Bird along with his leading lady, Meghan Chadeayne, an assortment of cast and crew, and a couple of rather believable zombies that shambled on the carpet.
