Just because you get that “bitter beer face” after eyeballing a DVD cover for a movie that you’re fairly positive will suck on a global level, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the film in question is commensurate with the lameness that you’ve ingrained in it. After popping in President Werewolf from director Mike Davis, I’d almost immediately shut my mind down to ready myself for what I was sure to be a colossal disaster on celluloid, and while it clearly isn’t time to notify the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in the near future for an award mention, it wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture to toss it in the crapper either.

The film, listed under the ”green” category, is compiled of numerous scenes of recycled, public and stock footage with voice-overs from different actors, giving it a Mystery Science Theater 7000 feel to it that reins in heavy laughs at varying points. The movie follows President John Wolfman (Quantum Leap’s Dean Stockwell) and his efforts to not only raise his son by himself but successfully shoot down a merger of the U.S. and China, all the while attempting to solve a series of heinous murders across D.C. (you CAN’T make this stuff up).

As if our fearless leader doesn’t have enough on his plate, his lycanthropic tendencies have the unfortunate presence to show up sporadically… yep, the main man in the White House is a werewolf.

The movie follows a path that is reminiscent to the old Saturday afternoon karate flicks that were dubbed SO horrendously; however, as bad as the sound and picture quality is on display here, it does work to a certain extent (just not a film you could conceivably watch repeatedly). The voice work can be a bit tedious with overacting the norm, and extra servings of cheese are ample to those willing to accept it. Overall, President Wolfman will most assuredly appeal to fans of the “MST7K” set or those who are desperate for a watch when Netflix is on the fritz or the line at the Redbox is just TOO damn long.
