The Coming Monsterpocalypse
I must confess that my role-playing game phase was rather short-lived and I haven’t played one in many a year. I loathed the whole collectible card gaming thing and am almost complete oblivious to current trend in CMGs, collectible miniatures games. However, a new CMG called Monsterpocalypse coming from CMG specialists Privateer Press later this year might make me change my mind and break out my old eight-sided dice.
“The Monsterpocalypse CMG will launch with over 80 pre-painted plastic figures in the initial set and will include large-scale monsters, destroyable city structures, and vehicles. Planned for release at retail in 2008, figures will be sold in randomized booster packs and non-randomized starter games, and special figures will be available at events throughout 2008.”
Privateer Press has put up pics of a few prototype figures of some of the giant monstrosities that players can use to unleash their own Monsterpocalypse, such as the very Cthulu-like beast pictured above.
Though Monsterpocalypse was first announced late last October – shows you how out of the loop I am when it comes to gaming – things are really starting to kick into gear now that Privateer Press has begun working with Across The Pond Studios to create a three-issue comic book miniseries launching in September via comic company Desperado that will help further promote Monsterpocalypse. Those that purchase all three issues will be eligible to receive a limited edition Monsterpocalypse figure. A #0 preview issue will even debut for the lucky thousands that attend Comic Con in July.
