No one seems to have any qualms about Luca Guadagnino remaking American Psycho. Once the director of Call Me By Your Name dipped his toe into horror, audiences were satisfied enough with his Suspiria remake in 2018 and were obsessed with how he brought Camille DeAngelis’ book Bones and All to life. The more hotly contested role in the remake is the American psycho in question: Patrick Bateman.
Dread Central caught up with the original American Psycho director, Mary Harron, to shed light on Harron’s 1996 film I SHOT ANDY WARHOL, which has been restored by Janus Films and is returning to theaters this year. When asked about the remake rumors and who she would cast as Patrick Bateman in 2026, Harron was unequivocal in her convictions.
“[Christian Bale] is so firmly set in my mind, I can’t imagine anyone else doing it. Once I do casting, I can’t imagine anyone else in the main role — like I can’t imagine anyone else but Lili Taylor [in I SHOT ANDY WARHOL],” Harron told Dread Central.
“When I’ve done it, it’s like that’s it; that’s the person,” she said. “They’re just fixed for me.”
Sorry, Jacob Elordi, Austin Butler, and everyone else rumored. In Harron’s eyes, Patrick Bateman will forever and always be Christian Bale.
