Actor Jack Taylor of ‘Count Dracula’, ‘Pieces’, and Many Others Has Passed Away

Sad news this morning, as Dread has learned that actor Jack Taylor has passed away, via THR. He was 99.

Taylor lived in the Chamberí district of Madrid for more than six decades. He died Tuesday, as first reported by Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

Born George Brown Randall in Oregon, Taylor began his acting career in the early 1950’s on “The Jack Benny Show,” where he co-starred with Marilyn Monroe. Finding it tough to find gigs in the states, he eventually moved to Mexico, and then Europe, where he found a spot for himself mostly in horror.

Taylor’s list of genre credits stretch far and wide. He appeared alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Barbarian. Faced off against Christopher Lee in Count Dracula. Starred opposite Johnny Depp as an antique book collector in The Ninth Gate. Appeared as Professor Arthur Brown in the classic nasty, Pieces. And he even had a role in Mexico’s Blind Dead franchise, appearing in my personal favorite, Ghost Galleon.

I could go on and on with Taylor’s accolades, as he had so many to his name. Tall in stature and with a magnetic presence, the man was an incredibly gifted actor. No short bio could possibly do his career justice.

THR notes that he recently published his memoirs, entitled My 100 Years of Cinema. If you haven’t already, I’d suggest giving it a read.

Our hearts go out to Taylor’s friends and family.
