‘Street Fighter’ Trailer an Epic Montage of Nostalgia
I don’t care that this isn’t horror. With Mortal Kombat II arriving in theaters this month, I can’t help but lose myself in excitement over this trailer for Street Fighter that finally – and I mean, finally – gets it right.
The trailer delivers everything you’d expect and want out of a Street Fighter movie, including a neon-soaked street fight between Ryu and Ken. All of the classic characters are there, along with some really fun inside-baseball jokes, and the decision to make Chun-Li the central character that the entire movie revolves around was brilliant. The effects look great, and the characters take themselves super seriously, even if the movie is focused on bringing fun energy to fans. I love it.
Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!
Helmed by director Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter is set to bring the battle from the arcade to the big screen with Hadoukens, roundhouses, and all your favorite characters.
In theaters October 16, 2026.
