‘Hope’ – Neon Acquires Sci-fi Thriller from ‘The Wailing’ Director

Neon has acquired Na Hong-jin‘s (The Wailing) sci-fi thriller Hope ahead of its Cannes Film Festival premiere, reports Variety this morning.
The film follows “a police officer who is alerted to the news that a tiger has appeared in the hills, sending the town into chaos. But what begins as a local emergency soon spirals into a deeper, more terrifying mystery, one that forces the town’s residents to confront the unknown.”
Starring are Hwang Jung-min (The Wailing), Zo In-sung (Moving), Hoyeon (“Squid Game”), Michael Fassbender (The Killer), Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Taylor Russell (Bones and All) and Cameron Britton (“Mindhunter”).
Cannes artistic director Thierry Fremaux teased that the film “constantly changes genres” to capture a story of “no part of history that’s ever been told before.”
Hope marks the first feature from Hong-jin since his excellent folk horror film, The Wailing. It’s been a long time coming for the filmmaker, but with that cast and the mysterious premise, this immediately has my attention.
