‘The Furious’ – Ultra-Violent Action Epic Pushed to June

Unfortunate news this morning, as fans anticipating Lionsgate’s ultra-violent action epic, The Furious, will have to wait a little longer to see it in theaters. Originally slated to release on May 29th, the studio has announced this morning that the relentless, high-intensity ride will now punch into cinemas on June 12th.

The hype is real: The Furious is one of the best action films I’ve seen in the last decade. Some have already called it a “masterpiece”, with the movie drawing comparisons to action classics like The Raid. Let’s just say, I support those comments.

The premise is simple: a little girl is kidnapped, and the father is god damn furious. You know the saying, a father’s scorn knows no bounds.

“When Wang Wei’s young daughter is abducted by a ruthless criminal network, he turns to local authorities for help — only to be met with corruption and indifference. With no other options, Wei takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a relentless and violent mission to rescue her. Along the way, he forms an uneasy alliance with Navin, a determined journalist searching for his own missing wife. Together, the two men plunge into a brutal underworld, unleashing a relentless assault against the kidnappers in a high-stakes martial arts battle fueled by vengeance.”

Rated R for “strong bloody violence and language,” believe me when I say the film delivers everything it promises.

The Furious stars Xie Miao as Wang Wei, alongside Joe TaslimYang EnyouBrian Le, and Joey Iwanaga.

Directed by Kenji Tanigaki, the film is written by Mak Tin ShuLei ZhilongShum Kwan Sin, and Frank Hui, and is based on a character originally created by David Morrell. Producers include Bill KongShan Tam, and Frank Hui.
