‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie In the Works from ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Filmmakers!

Forty years after the first Metal Gear Solid game released, Sony Pictures is finally developing a film adaptation, reports Variety. To add to the excitement, the filmmakers behind the hugely popular Final Destination: Bloodlines are set to direct!

Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are handling the project for studio label Columbia, part of a first-look production deal they just signed.

Ari Arad will produce.

Years ago, Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) was reported to be working on a film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid with a cast that included Oscar Isaac, but that obviously fell through.

For those not familiar with Metal Gear Solid, the Japanese action-adventure stealth games were created by Hideo Kojima. Published by Konami in 1987, the first game follows special forces operative, Solid Snake, assigned the task of finding the titular superweapon, “Metal Gear”, a bipedal walking tank (mecha) with the ability to launch nuclear weapons.

Said the filmmakers, “As long term fans of the game, we are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life. We are honored to be partnering with the incredible executive team at Sony. While working with several Sony teams in the last year, we’ve been blown away by the level of creativity, thoughtfulness, and passion we felt in every conversation. We share the vision that Tom, Sanford, Peter, Louie, Kristine and Damien, Ashley and the whole Sony team have for creating theatrical event films that entertain the world.”
