‘Undertone’ Filmmaker Reveals Sequel Will Focus on Couple from Haunted Recordings!

It was recently announced that Ian Tuason‘s audio-driven nightmare, Undertone, would continue as a trilogy for A24. The filmmaker has just revealed plot details for what the sequel to his terrifying debut feature will entail, and I’m certainly listening.
While speaking with Phantasmag, the filmmaker confirmed that the next film will be a prequel. “I won’t say much, but the next one is the story of Mike and Jessa,” said Tuason. “So we can see them now.”
For those who don’t remember, Mike and Jessa are the pregnant couple heard on the audio files anonymously sent to two horror podcasters.
Tuason also spoke the third film briefly, saying, “I’ll leave the third one a mystery, but I am talking to A24 about it. It looks like it’s going to happen.”
“There are a lot of questions that I left open,” added Tuason. “I want to answer them.”
Undertone follows podcasters Evy (Nina Kiri) and Justin (Adam DiMarco), who receive recordings from an anonymous source that turn out to house a demonic presence.
In his review out of Sundance, Dread’s own Josh Korngut described the film as, “a masterclass in tension [that] applies restraint in ways that always read like choice and not the result of limited resources.”
Undertone is now available on digital.
