Andy Muschietti Confirms 'IT' Supercut Is Moving Forward: "We're Going to Do It"

Back in January, director Andy Muschietti was once again discussing the long-rumored idea of a combined “supercut” of It and It: Chapter Two – a concept he’s been floating since 2019. At the time, it sounded more like a creative ambition than anything concrete.

Now, there’s been a handful of meaningful updates.

In a Spanish-language interview tied to promotion for It: Welcome to Derry this past January, Muschietti and producing partner Barbara Muschietti confirmed that the supercut was actively being considered – and may finally move forward.

However, the biggest reason for the holdback was “time,” and now things are becoming much more real, with the filmmakers promising that it’s going to happen.

“We didn’t have time to do it because we were involved in all kind of projects,” said Andy in an interview with SlashFilm. “The show had a priority over the supercut.

“We’re in a moment now where we can definitely go to the studio and ask for support, but when is the question. They can say, ‘Yeah, go for it,’ but now we are sort of committed, like happily committed, to season 2 of Welcome to Derry. And there’s other movie projects going around. But we’re going to do it,” he said.

Unlike earlier discussions, this version would not just stitch the two films together. It would also include entirely new material.

Muschietti indicated earlier this year that additional scenes still need to be filmed, describing them as connective elements that would reshape the story into a single, unified narrative rather than a simple extended edition. The structure itself could change, suggesting a more ambitious reworking of the existing films.

The shift from a long-discussed idea to a project with potential new footage and studio backing marks the most concrete development yet. If it proceeds, the supercut would align with past extended film releases like Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, but with the added distinction of incorporating newly shot scenes to bridge the narrative. Renny Harlin is also allegedly looking to release a The Strangers trilogy supercut.
