‘The Conjuring’ Star Patrick Wilson Cast in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 3

(L-r) PATRICK WILSON as Ed Warren and VERA FARMIGA as Lorraine Warren in New Line Cinema’s supernatural thriller “THE CONJURING,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

Patrick Wilson, who horror fans know and love from both Insidious and The Conjuring franchise, has been cast in an undisclosed role in the third season of The Last of Us, says The Insneider.

Speculation is that he’ll be playing Abby’s father, which is a pretty big deal.

In the game, Abby’s father, Jerry Anderson, is the Firefly surgeon preparing to operate on Ellie in hopes of developing a cure for the Cordyceps infection.

When Joel storms the hospital to save Ellie from the operation that would have killed her, he kills the surgeon, setting off a brutal chain of events. The death of her father becomes the driving force behind Abby Anderson’s quest for revenge, ultimately triggering the central conflict of The Last of Us Part II.

Kaytlin Dever and Bella Ramsey will reprise their roles, this time joined by Clea DuVall (The Faculty) and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (American Carnage).

Deadline adds that Jason Ritter (Freddy vs. Jason) is also joining the cast as a regular and that it’s worth noting that Ritter has technically already appeared on the show. He played the uncredited role of a Clicker (the nickname for those infected with the mutated cordyceps fungus) on two episodes of Season 1, starring alongside his wife, Melanie Lynskey.

This time around, Ritter has his own character to bring to life. He will play Hanley, a WLF soldier. Wilson is confirmed to portray Jerry, Abby’s (Kaitlyn Dever) father.

In their review of The Last of Us Season 2 for Dread, Kaiya Shunyata described it as “an adaptation that isn’t afraid to take risks,” adding, “gone are the days of shoot-outs and explosions, trading the action in for a toned-down atmosphere.”

Season 3 of The Last of Us began filming in Metro Vancouver in early March, with production expected to continue through November of this year.

Based on the video game series created by Neil Druckman, The Last of Us is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly fungus has transformed the majority of the human race into fungal zombies.
