‘The Exorcist’ – Mike Flanagan’s Bold New Take Has Begun Shooting!

Say your prayers, because the power of Christ has compelled Mike Flanagan’s take on The Exorcist to begin shooting! Earlier today, the filmmaker posted a photo from set on IG. It features a slate with Flanagan commenting, “Day 1…here we go“. Check it out below.
Seeing that neon-green, upside down cross on the slate with Mike Flanagan’s name next to it…it feels like a pinch me moment for fans of the franchise.
The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane and John Leguizamo, as well as frequent collaborators, Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Gil Bellows, Carl Lumbly, Robert Longstreet, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr., Benjamin Pajak, and Carla Gugino.
Mike Flanagan wrote the script and is directing and producing the new feature, promising a “fresh and bold” take on the demonic possession story. It is not a remake nor a sequel but set in the Exorcist “universe.”
While plot details are being kept under the sheets, it is known that Johansson plays a mother and Jupe her son. Leguizamo may be playing an antagonist.
Universal Pictures will release the new film theatrically and has set a March 12, 2027, release date.
