‘Hannibal’ Creator Developing TV Project with Clive Barker – Could It Be ‘Hellraiser’?!

Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller just released his feature debut in Dust Bunny. And now, the filmmaker already has a new TV show he’s developing with none other than Clive Barker (Hellraiser), according to Screenrant.
In an interview with the outlet, Fuller was asked about what he’s working on next. His answer has me hooked. “There’s so much that I want to do. I’m writing a script right now that hopefully will be my next directorial effort, and I’m collaborating with Clive Barker on a new television series that’s very exciting and a dream come true from my childhood. It’s just a matter of time to bring them to life.”
What if this just so happens to be a show based on Hellraiser? Something from his childhood, and could “they” be the Cenobites?! Sure, maybe it’s a long shot. But between David Bruckner’s 2022 reboot and the upcoming Hellraiser: Revival video game, the franchise is still as popular as ever. A tale about dimensional travelers known as Cenobites who force those who call them to experience the ultimate pleasure… and pain… the story is ripe for a TV series. Plus, a Hellraiser series was in development over at HBO back in 2021. Hmmmm. Hm.
Does that mean it will happen? Maybe not. But the box is open for the possibility. And my soul would happily be torn apart if that’s the case.
Imagine, Fuller, paired with the brilliant writer who brought us the films Hellraiser, Nightbreed, and Lord of Illusions, plus countless novels and short stories (one of which was adapted into Candyman). The very idea has me screaming.
Barker had previously been in development on a Nightbreed series with Trick ‘r Treat filmmaker, Michael Dougherty, so there’s a chance this may be that.
Stay tuned to Dread as we learn more details about the project.
