Kevin Williamson Will Not Return to Direct ‘Scream 8’

When it comes to writing, Kevin Williamson is the man. But taking the director’s chair for Scream 7 wasn’t the best choice. At the very least, Paramount and Spyglass “paid it forward” to the man half responsible for one of the greatest slasher franchises of all time, but now it’s time to get serious.
After a record-breaking box office opening, Scream 8 is all but guaranteed, and Williamson has already taken himself out of consideration as director.
When asked by Hello Sidney if he’d “do it [direct] again”, the writer-turned-director was firm: “Not Scream. No.”
He continues: “It’s nice to be part of the Scream family. That doesn’t mean I always have to be front and center. I don’t always have to write or direct… other people can take the reins.”
It’s great that the studio took a chance on him, but it would be nice to find a filmmaker with the right comedic edge – like Radio Silence had – to bring Ghostface back once again.
In the latest installment, when a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.
