Chilling ‘Hokum’ Trailer Checks Adam Scott Into a Haunted Hotel

NEON is lining up another huge year for horror, and the first out of the gate is Hokum, which stars Adam Scott as a horror writer who visits an Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, unaware the property is said to be haunted by a witch.

Today we have the official trailer for the haunter, and it’s dripping with atmosphere. The footage showcases striking set design and slowly ratchets up the tension through sound, with Adam Scott prowling the halls of a haunted hotel. If you like your horror steeped in mood, this one looks like it could pair nicely with The Shining.

Peter Coonan (King of the Travellers), Austin Amelio (When No One Sees Us), David Wilmot (Hamnet), Will O’Connell (Game of Thrones), and Florence Ordesh (Foundation) also star.

Damian McCarthy first gained attention with two DIY indie successes, Caveat and Oddity, both praised by Dread Central. And Hokum has got some big names behind it, including WeaponsThe Ring, It: Chapter One+2, and Paranormal Activity producers Roy Lee and Steven Schneider.

Official synopsis: “Novelist Ohm Bauman (Scott) retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, where he is consumed by tales of a witch haunting the honeymoon suite. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance force him to confront dark corners of his past.”

Hokum hits theaters May 1 from NEON.
