John Leguizamo’s Head Spins for Universal’s New ‘The Exorcist’

The Exorcist

John Leguizamo (Spawn, The Menu, Vanishing on 7th Street) has joined the cast of Mike Flanagan’s untitled new The Exorcist film, writes THR.

He joins previously announced Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane in the new take on the horror classic.

Shooting begins next week on the film from Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment.

Mike Flanagan wrote the script and is directing and producing the new feature, promising a “fresh and bold” take on the demonic possession story. It is not a remake nor a sequel but set in the Exorcist “universe.”

While plot details are being kept under the sheets, it is known that Johansson plays a mother and Jupe her son. Leguizamo may be playing an antagonist.

Universal Pictures will release the new film theatrically and has set a March 12, 2027, release date.
