‘Ready or Not 2’ Star Samara Weaving Reveals When She First Discovered Her Iconic Scream

Samara Weaving can scream with the best of them. The star of films such as The Babysitter, Mayhem, Ready or Not and it’s upcoming sequel has an iconic set of lungs on her that has cemented the actress in the “Scream Queen” Hall of Fame. You can probably hear it right now just by thinking about it. But when did she first discover she had that specific ability?

Before she was the beloved star she is now, Weaving appeared in episodes 8-10 of the first season of the “Ash vs. Evil Dead” TV series on Starz. She played Heather, a woman who didn’t quite make it to dawn. And as she discussed over on Reddit, it was then that she found her primal scream (watch it here).

Said Weaving, “I remember I did week on a spin-off show called ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’. I was in for a couple of episodes, and it was the first horror-genre thing I’d done. I remember on the day of filming, they said, ‘Alright so the house is attacking you and we’ll push in as you scream,’ and I’d never really screamed before.”

She continues, “And so I did it, and I remember thinking to myself, ‘wow that’s a good scream.’ I had never heard something like that come out of my body before. The crew even applauded, haha. It made it into the show and that was it, the scream was born.

If you’ve heard Weaving scream before, then you know that there’s not a single soul that can replicate her unique sound. “Someone online called it a yoddle and that made me laugh,” she adds.

I’m laughing now too, because that’s dead on.

This isn’t the first time Weaving has mentioned the origins of her scream, but it is the most detailed version of the story. You can watch her discuss the moment below from an appearance on The Late Show with James Corden during the release of Scream VI.

Prepare for a lot more of Samara’s incredible scream/yoddle when Ready or Not 2: Here I Come hits theaters on March 20th via Searchlight Pictures.
