‘Resident Evil’ – Zach Cregger’s Adaptation Will Be a “Rollercoaster Ride of Non-Stop Action”

Recent comments have implied that Barbarian director Zach Cregger‘s feature adaptation of Capcom’s Resident Evil will be a “complete new set up”. And today, additional notes have come to light that should have fans of the survival horror franchise foaming at the mouth.
During an interview with Geek Tyrant, producer Roy Lee discussed what we can expect from Cregger’s Resident Evil. “It’s like a roller coaster ride of nonstop action, of just showing a point of view of a character and an original story in the world of Raccoon City, where it’s like the experience of watching the movie is similar to the experience you would get playing the game, is what Zach is trying to do.”
Continued Lee, “He’s [Cregger] definitely spent a lot of time prepping various shots that will impress the audience in ways they’ve not seen things before. If you think about the progression of Zach’s movies, it went from a $4 million movie to a $38 million movie to now like an $80 plus million dollar movie, and each time the money’s going on screen.”
It sounds like Cregger is intent on making his Resident Evil as immersive and explosive as possible to create that in-game feeling. Music to my ears. Still, that’s not an easy feat to accomplish, as it’s notoriously difficult to adapt video games into a feature film. But, based on Cregger’s prior movies, I believe Lee when he says we’re in for one wild rollercoaster of a nightmare.
At this time, plot details are still being kept close to the vest. Since this sounds like it’ll be a fresh, new story, don’t expect to see any characters from the games. Let’s just hope this will be the Resident Evil film that finally delivers the action-packed nightmare fuel that fans deserve.
Austin Abrams (Weapons), Paul Walter Hauser (The Naked Gun), and Zach Cherry (“Fallout) star.
Resident Evil rises from the dead and into theaters on September 18th via Sony.
