Sony Wins Bid for Creature Feature ‘Skeletons’, Teaming ‘Texas Chainsaw’ Director, J.J. Abrams, and Brie Larson!

Hot off the heels of the announcement that JT Mollner will get behind the camera for A24’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, the Strange Darling director saw his Bad Robot project head to the EFM in Berlin under a new title: Skeletons.
Deadline reports, in the biggest worldwide deal to emerge from this year’s European Film Market so far, Sony Pictures is on the verge of closing rights to the hot creature feature, which will star Oscar-winner and Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson (Room), with J.J. Abrams producing.
Skeletons is described as “a modern take on the creature horror film told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.”
Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You), who directed Whalefall for 20th Century and Imagine, wrote the screenplay based on a short story by Philip Fracassi.
“Brian Duffield has written an absolute powerhouse of a script,” Abrams said when we first announced the project at Cannes last year. “It’s a horror film that is as sweet and moving as it is terrifying.”
He added: “Finally, having the limitlessly talented Brie Larson as our star sets the film up to be that rare horror film that makes you laugh, feel, and care, before taking you on an absolutely wild ride.”
FilmNation, WME and CAA are handling the project at the markets.
