Mike Flanagan Says Stephen King Is “Very Happy” with ‘Dark Tower’ Season 1 Scripts

Stephen King‘s Dark Tower series has had quite the bumpy road when it comes to adaptations. The author’s epic eight novel series about a Gunslinger and his quest for revenge has seen various attempts at becoming a feature fall through. The 2017 film starring Idris Elba was more or less a disaster. But we may soon finally see a take that’s worthy of King’s magnum opus soon.

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep) and his production company Intrepid Pictures has a multiyear series deal with Amazon MGM Studios. As part of that deal, Flanagan has been working to bring his dream project of a series adaptation of King’s Dark Tower to Amazon Prime. And he just gave a very promising update.

During an interview with Doof! Media, Flanagan spoke about the upcoming series. “The scripts for the first season are wonderful. I am so happy with them. Stephen King is very happy with them. He’s been through it with his adaptations. He’ll tell you he’s not pleased. And this one means more to him than any of the others, so the pressure is huge.”

Hey, if they’re happy, we’re happy!

Though, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. If there’s anyone who can do the tale justice, it’s Flanagan. He has become the modern King whisperer. They are ka-tet, with Flanagan having adapted the author’s novels Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck and Gerald’s Game, and a Carrie television series currently in post-production. I have full faith he’ll do Dark Tower the way it deserves.

Here’s hoping Flanagan has us all saying, “thankee, sai”.
