The Sweet Suffering – ‘Hellraiser: Revival’ Game Trailer Reveals a Love Story at Its Core
Gameplay comes second to story, and the setup for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival video game is perfection.
A brand new gameplay trailer was released today that’s perfectly timed with Valentine’s Day, revealing some of the motivation behind the main characters in the Hellraiser spinoff game, which brings Pinhead and all our favorite Cenobites back into the fold.
The story draws on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, in which Orpheus descends into the underworld to find his lost love and bring her back to the surface.
The Orpheus myth aligns closely with Hellraiser‘s central philosophy: desire pursued beyond moral or natural limits leads to suffering that is indistinguishable from ecstasy.
It’s quite literally the perfect story for this game and will create an even more engaging experience as you attempt to survive the underworld and all of the pain and suffering that comes with it.
