Many fans would probably argue that filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg is the best thing to happen to the Predator franchise in a long, long time. The director made a splash with his hugely popular prequel, Prey. Last year, he gave audiences not one but two Predator films in Predator: Killer of Killers and Predator: Badlands. Both were bangers (read our review of Badlands). Trachtenberg has floated plans for further sequels, but a recent deal with Paramount stoked fear that those may not happen now.

Rest assured, Predator fans. The films are still very much alive.

In an interview with i09, Tratchenberg was asked about the first-look deal he just signed with Paramount and whether it could be the end of his Predator plans. After all, Disney owns the rights to the franchise, not Paramount.

“It does not mean that,” assured Trachtenberg.

Added the filmmaker, “I am simultaneously figuring out all of the next steps for the Predator franchise. I’m in this moment that I was in when Prey came out, where I was like, ‘What do I do next?’ and got very excited about a Predator protagonist and got very excited about an animated movie with multiple time periods, and then they just happened to go at the same time. And so that’s where I’m at with Predator now, is, ‘Oh my God, there are so many exciting things we can do.’”

Trachtenberg went on to say, “But also now I have this deal at Paramount where I’m thrilled, and they are thrilled to make some of the original movies that I’ve always had in my head and heart. And of course, they also have very cool IP and all that. You know, timing may affect certain things, but both things are in my heart… Anything’s on the table.”

There you have it. The hunt is far from over! What Trachtenberg has in store next for the Predator franchise, we still don’t know for sure. But at least we can rest easy knowing that the filmmaker intends on finishing what he started.

Predator: Badlands arrives on Hulu February 12th. You can stream the rest of the franchise there now.
