Netflix Taps ‘Crawl’ Director Alexandre Aja for ‘Under Paris’ Sequel

Netflix is officially moving forward with a sequel to its surprise 2024 hit Under Paris, and the streamer is bringing in Alexandre Aja to take the reins.
The original film was directed by Xavier Gens, though there’s been no word on why he won’t be returning for the follow-up.
Under Paris ended up being one of Netflix’s most-watched movies of the year. The film stars Bérénice Bejo as a marine researcher pulled back into the water to stop a mutated shark that’s learned how to survive in freshwater and is tearing through Paris. Things escalate quickly once the shark’s offspring enter the picture, turning the city into a feeding ground.
Bejo is expected to reprise her role, though no other casting has been confirmed yet.
Aja is no stranger to aquatic chaos. He previously directed Piranha 3D and the nail-biting survival thriller Crawl, making him a solid fit to push the franchise further.
Story details and a release date for the sequel haven’t been announced.
Thank you to THR for the heads up.
