Kevin Williamson‘s Scream VII will hit theaters soon, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to take on multiple projects. Variety reports today that the Scream scribe will be adapting Ashley Elston‘s hit suspense novel, First Lie Wins, as a series for Universal Television.

First Lie Wins follows con artist Evie Porter, who assumes new identities for her mysterious boss, but finds her current assignment – a seemingly perfect life with a fiancé – threatened when her past catches up to her, forcing her to set a final trap to escape.

Pamela Dorman Books published the novel in 2024. It has been translated into more than 30 languages and sold over one million copies.

Williamson will co-write and executive produce, with Elston on as an executive producer. Ben Fast will executive produce for Outerbanks Entertainment, as well.

Williamson has long been a genre mainstay. He rose to enormous popularity in the 90s with films such as The Faculty, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and of course, Scream. Recently, he penned the thrilling slasher, Sick (still one of the best Covid horror films to date, in my opinion).

Look out for Williamson’s Scream VII when it slashers into theaters on February 26th, 2026.
