‘Faces of Death’ Scores April Release, Shudder’s Widest Distribution to Date

'Faces of Death' Teaser Trailer Feels Legitimately Dangerous; In Theaters April 2026!

Faces of Death, John Alan Schwartz’s controversial 1978 pseudo-documentary, is getting the reboot treatment from filmmaker Daniel Goldhaber. The new Faces of Death is co-written by Isa Mazze and stars Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery, Josie Totah, Charli XCX, and Jermaine Fowler. While principal photography wrapped in 2023, and a chilling teaser was released last week, Variety has exclusively reported IFC and Shudder’s acquisition with a planned April 10 release, reportedly the duo’s widest to date.

The original and its sequels were critically maligned cult artifacts. Schwartz infamously used real-life footage of actual deaths, and director Daniel Goldhaber promises more of the same. “We came up with a solution to that problem [of using real footage] that required a lot of legal and logistical footwork. It’s very important to us to honor the parts of that aspect of the original. We have done our best in the movie to do that within the bounds of the law.”

The official synopsis reads, “Faces of Death continues the exploration of the original film’s infamous ‘Is it real or not?’ conceit continues as a woman (Ferreira) working as a content moderator for a major video platform discovers what appears to be re-enactments of murders from the original film. In an online world where nothing can be trusted, she must determine whether the violence is fiction or unfolding in real time.”
