Maika Monroe Offers Update on ‘They Follow’: “I Would Stay Positive”

They Follow, a sequel to David Robert Mitchell‘s horror hit, It Follows, was announced in 2023. Unfortunately, we haven’t had much news since then. But today, we do have another update from returning star Maika Monroe.
In an interview with EW, Monroe told the outlet in regards to They Follow, “Rumors have been spreading that it will be happening. So I would stay positive because I’ve heard some good news recently. So we’ll see.”
As far as the script goes, Monroe offers, “It’s not at all what I expected, where you would find [her character] Jay, which I thought was really interesting. I was like, ‘Whoa! Cool,’ which I think the audience will probably have a similar reaction. I know this might sound cliché, but it’s staying true to the original where we’re bringing back all the same team… The story is very much still in that space, but it’s just grander and, yeah, I’m really, really excited for it.”
Mitchell will be back as writer/director for the sequel to his film about a deadly entity that pursues those involved in a chain of sexual encounters.
Neon and Good Fear Content are producing.
Stay tuned to Dread as we learn more. Until then, watch Monroe in the new Resident Evil Requiem live-action short that dropped earlier today!
