Production on Season Two of Stephen King’s ‘The Institute’ Has Begun

Stephen King continues to be all the rage, as the legendary author took to X this morning to announce that production has begun on Season Two of the MGM+ series, The Institute!
Season one of The Institute premiered on MGM+ in July of 2025 and is based on King’s novel of the same name that released in 2019. It follows the story of teen genius Luke Ellis, who is kidnapped and awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did and who are all possessed of unusual abilities. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.
The series hails from director/executive producer Jack Bender (From) and writer/executive producer Benjamin Cavell (The Stand). King executive produces, as well.
The inaugural season starred Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Barnes, Joe Freeman, Simone Miller, Fionn Laird, Hannah Galway, Julian Richings, Robert Joy and Martin Roach.
In their review of season one for Dread, Kaiya Shunyata wrote, “While it does pick up in the middle, The Institute eventually fizzles out with a finale that plays it entirely too safe.“
Let’s hope season two is an improvement.
Stay tuned to Dread for more news on the next season coming soon to MGM+ as we learn it.
