Yellow Veil Pictures has acquired North American distribution rights to The Threshing, a psychological body horror directed by Sean Mannion, which recently premiered at SXSW Sydney, Dread Central can exclusively report.
There’s a lot of hype behind The Threshing, which was shot entirely on a working regenerative farm and described as Wake in Fright meets Raw.
“The Threshing follows a young couple searching for purpose and belonging, only to find themselves absorbed into a tight-knit agricultural community whose ideals of sustainability and devotion begin to take a disturbing physical toll. As communal rituals intensify, bodies, boundaries, and beliefs start to break down, and the farm’s promise of harmony gives way to something invasive, obsessive, and deeply unsettling.”
The film stars Simone Grossman (Collective: Unconscious), Jess Darrow (Ecanto), Jean-Louis Droulers (Pledge, Fucktoys), Jared Kemp (The Purge: Election Year), and Zachary Zamsky (The Testament of Ann Lee, Pet Shop Days).
“In 2020, my wife and I picked up and moved across the country so she could take a job on a regenerative farm. While that time was a totally positive one, I got kind of obsessed with the different ideologies I witnessed,” says Sean Mannion. “There can be a heaviness to belief. I started to imagine how the desire to live ethically, to be in harmony with the land could turn into something more dogmatic in the wrong hands,” he added. “As a longtime fan, I couldn’t be happier to be partnering with the team at Yellow Veil. They are so skilled at articulating to audiences that fine line in genre film that exists between arthouse and commercial, a place where I’m always at home.”
“The Threshing really gets under your skin. Sean captures the environment so strongly that you can feel and taste the mixture of dirt, sweat, and blood,” says Joe Yanick of Yellow Veil Pictures. “A remarkable debut that captures the intensity and poignancy of Wake and Fright and the stark immediacy of something like Raw.”
The Threshing is produced by Brassica Productions and Post Mambo, with producers Mannion, Grossman, Darrow, and Clea DeCrane, and executive produced by Michael Weiss.
Yellow Veil plans a North American release later in 2026.
