‘Beetlejuice’ Star Catherine O’Hara Has Passed Away

We at Dread are devastated to learn today that Catherine O’Hara, a two-time Emmy winner and star of such films as Beetlejuice, has passed away at the age of 71.

THR reports that O’Hara died at her home in Los Angeles after a brief illness, confirmed by her reps at CAA.

Horror fans may best know O’Hara from her iconic role as Delia in both Beetlejuice and the sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but she was an incredibly talented actress with a long list of credits to her name. General audiences are more than familiar with her thanks to her role as Kevin’s mom in Home Alone. She also had roles in Frankenweenie, Best in Show and The Nightmare Before Christmas, to name a few.

O’Hara garnered multiple accolades during her career. She won an Emmy in 2020 for playing Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek, and another for her work on SCTV Network in 1982. Took home the 2021 Critics Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series (Schitt’s Creek). Won a Golden Globe that year for the same role. And recently received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for HBO’s The Last of Us.

Our condolences go out to O’Hara’s family, friends, and all those who loved her.
