‘The Exorcism at 1600 Penn’ Comic Being Adapted by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster

The Exorcism at 1600 Penn

One of my favorite newer books I picked up at last year’s big comic convention was Hannah Rose May‘s excellent The Exorcism at 1600 Penn, a supernatural thriller set at the most famous address in the United States.

The comic book had some heat and has been making the studio rounds. Today, Deadline reports that it has landed at Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, who will be developing a feature adaptation of the book from IDW Publishing.

The Exorcism at 1600 Penn takes place at the White House as it becomes a demonic battleground for good versus evil.

The story follows the first female president of the United States as she balances boiling political tensions, the threat of World War III, being a mother to two teenagers, and a rapidly shifting media landscape.

The comic book series is illustrated by Vanesa Del Rey and currently has a sequel, The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace, in release. Jason Blum will produce the feature take for Blumhouse, with the studio’s Ryan Turek exec producing alongside May and IDW Publishing CEO Davidi Jonas.

“What immediately drew us to The Exorcism at 1600 was how grounded and urgent it feels,” said Turek. “Hannah has created a story that fuses classic possession horror with contemporary political tension in a way that feels bold and deeply human.”

May is also writing a prequel to Smile for IDW, director Parker Finn and Paramount, set to publish mid-February.
