Johannes Roberts on ‘47 Meters Down: The Wreck’ – “It Will Be the Scariest of the Three”

Johannes Roberts, hot off this month’s hit monkey slasher Primate, is also diving into the third installment of his shark-themed horror series 47 Meters Down.
With 47 Meters Down: The Wreck, Roberts steps into the producer role with horror regular Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry, My Bloody Valentine 3D) getting behind the camera.
Filming took place last year with plans for Lionsgate to release sometime this year.
“Yeah, I’m just heavy in post on Part 3. I think it will be out this year sometime,” Roberts tells Dread Central. “The movie is awesome. I like to be very hands-on with the movie, so it’s been really fun in the edit. The movies all have the same team – editor, sound department, etc. – so we’ve all known each other for the last ten years.”
The film stars The Conjuring‘s Ron Livingston (Exclusive) as a father who is determined to rebuild his relationship with his daughter as they bond scuba diving in beautiful tropical waters while exploring a famous shipwreck. But soon after their descent, their master diver has an accident, leaving them alone and unprotected inside the labyrinth of the wreck. As tensions rise and oxygen dwindles, the pair must use their newfound bond to escape the wreck and the relentless barrage of bloodthirsty great white sharks.
“The movie is super scary and tense,” adds Roberts. “I think it will be the scariest movie of the three —the wreck [itself] looks incredible.”
Even though 47 Meters Down: The Wreck has yet to be completed, Dread Central has confirmed plans for a fourth entry. Roberts doubles down.
“I can’t tell you too much about [47 Meters Down] Part 4 yet, but [I’m] really excited for it.” (As of this writing, there is no director attached.)
As for a sequel to Primate, nothing is set in stone (yet): “Ha, we’ll see about Primate 2. It was such a fun movie to make,” Roberts tells us. “I loved all the practical side of it. I was like a kid in a sandbox with all that. I’m so happy you guys dig it. It’s been wonderful to see it play with an audience.”
Primate was a huge success for Paramount that it would be monkey business not to capitalize on it.
