Tommy Wirkola's Untitled Shark Thriller Heads to Netflix

Sony Pictures‘ shark thriller written and directed by Tommy Wirkola (Violent Night, Dead Snow) and starring Phoebe Dynevor (Inheritance, Remain) is heading to Netflix after Sony on Friday pulled the flick from its theatrical release calendar, Deadline reported over the weekend.

Plot details for the pic, also starring Whitney Peak (Eye for an Eye, Trap House) and Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place Part II), remain under water. Most recently known as Shiver but now untitled (probably to avoid confusion with the Keanu Reeves sci-fi thriller of the same name), it’s produced by HyperObject Industries’ Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, as well as Wirkola.

“The news comes after earlier this week the studio and streamer closed a $7 billion-plus exclusive global pay-1 deal, in a continuation of their partnership. Sony and Netflix previously collaborated on Sony Pictures Animation’s Oscar-nominated The Mitchells vs. the Machines, with a sequel in development.

“Netflix has a first-look deal with Sony Pictures for any of the studio’s direct-to-streaming titles. The most recent film produced under this arrangement was Sony Animation’s KPop Demon Hunters, which is now the most-watched film of all time on Netflix with more than 325 million views.

“Sony Pictures’ deal with Netflix is additive to the studio’s full theatrical slate. Coming off the release of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple this week, Sony’s 2026 slate also includes Sony Animation’s GOATSpider-Man: Brand New Day, Resident EvilThe Social Reckoning and the next installment in the Jumanji franchise.”
