‘Marshmallow’ Sequel Set to Bring Audiences Back to the Campfire

If you missed the twisty indie horror film, Marshmallow, you missed a creepy campfire treat. The film became such a hit with audiences, that a sequel is officially on the way.

Variety reports today that Hemlock Circle Productions has announced that original director Daniel DelPurgatorio, writer Andy Greskoviak and cast members Kue Lawrence, Kai Cech, Dylan Friedman and Max Malas are all set to return for the next chapter of Marshmallow.

The official logline reads: “Set years after the events of the first film, the sequel follows the lingering damage left behind — not just to the world, but to those who survived it. The story descends into far darker territory, expanding the mythology while erasing any remaining sense of safety as the consequences finally come due.”

The unnerving first film follows a group of young campers who learn of a terrifying legend that they believe lurks in the woods around them. When kids begin disappearing, our heroes set out to discover the truth…unveiling terrible secrets along the way.

In my review of Marshmallow, I referred to it as a, “grim summer camp slasher meets Goosebumps story”. It’s equal parts fun and horrific and goes pretty hard for a coming of age horror movie.

You can currently stream Marshmallow on Paramount+, Amazon and Shudder.

There is no release date set for the sequel at this time. Stay tuned to Dread for more details as we learn them.
