SXSW First Looks: ‘Black Zombie’ and ‘Never After Dark’

We’re still combing through the SXSW Film Festival’s massive announcement and culling out tons of cool films playing this March in Austin, Texas.

Here we have two first looks at a pair of films having their World Premieres, the first being the Canadian production Black Zombie, pictured above, written and directed by Maya Annik Bedward.

“From the flickering screens of Hollywood horror to the haunted cane fields of colonial Haiti, Black Zombie unearths the buried origins of the zombie, reclaiming it as a symbol of survival and spiritual resistance.”

Featuring Yves-Grégory Francois, Anderson Mojica, Erol Josué, Mambo Labelle Déese Botanica, Slash, Tom Savini, Tananarive Due, and Zandashé Brown.

Hailing from Japan is Never After Dark, pictured below, from writer-director Dave Boyle.

In the film, “A medium travels deep into the Japanese countryside to perform a routine exorcism, where she is forced to confront the most terrifying enemy of all: the living.”

Never After Dark stars Moeka Hoshi, Kento Kaku, Kurumi Inagaki, Mutsuo Yoshioka, Bokuzo Masana, and Tae Kimura.
