From ‘The Conjuring’ to Comics: Michael Chaves Unveils “Corpse Knight”!

Horror filmmaker Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: Last Rites, The Nun II) has written Corpse Knight, an intense horror fantasy that is his first foray into comic books, reports THR, which has all the details.
Chaves has teamed up with artist Matthew Roberts, the co-creator of American frontier horror comic Manifest Destiny, for what will be a six-issue limited series released by Robert Kirkman’s Skybound and Image Comics. The first issue will hit comic shops April 22.
Set in Medieval France, Corpse tells of a young girl named Foy who tragically loses her father. As Foy struggles to fend for herself, she’s granted a miracle—her father returns from the dead to protect her.
The site shares Chaves’ take: “Her dad’s murdered. And he miraculously resurrects, we’re not sure how. But our little character has heard stories of Joan of Arc, and she believes that if she gets to Joan, she’ll be able to set things right. It’s a little bit of Wizard of Oz. They set out on their journey and things go horribly wrong.”
Interestingly, the idea came to him on the set of The Nun II while deep into researching various saints. “[He] found himself falling down a rabbit hole on the subjects of Joan of Arc and her companion-in-arms, Gilles de Rais, a nobleman who was later revealed to be a serial killer of children,” notes the site. “Chaves thought there could be movie in that relationship, wherein a monster was essentially hanging around with a saint.
