‘Sinners,’ ‘28 Years Later,’ and ‘Weapons’ Receive 2026 Dorian Film Award Nominations

Horror showed serious strength at the 2026 Dorian Film Awards, with Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller Sinners emerging as one of the most dominant genre titles of the year.

Announced by GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, the nominations place Sinners among the year’s top films overall, earning eight nods including Film of the Year, Director of the Year for Coogler, Genre Film of the Year, Film Music of the Year for Ludwig Göransson, and multiple acting nominations. The recognition solidifies the film’s status as both a genre standout and a critical heavyweight.

Genre filmmaking is strongly represented throughout this year’s Dorians, particularly in the Genre Film of the Year category, where Sinners faces off against several high-profile horror and dark fantasy releases. Danny Boyle’s long-anticipated sequel 28 Years Later earned a nomination, as did Guillermo del Toro’s emotionally charged take on Frankenstein and Zach Cregger’s studio horror follow-up Weapons. A24’s Bring Her Back rounds out the category, underscoring the continued dominance of elevated horror across studios and platforms.

Horror also made its presence felt in GALECA’s camp-focused categories. The Campiest Flick lineup includes the over-the-top sequel Final Destination: Bloodlines, the bonkers thriller The Housemaid, and Weapons, which continues to straddle the line between menace and maximalism.

Performance categories further highlight genre talent. Michael B. Jordan received a Film Performance of the Year nomination for Sinners, while Wunmi Mosaku earned a supporting nod for her role in the film. Jacob Elordi landed a Supporting Film Performance nomination for Frankenstein, marking another major genre performance recognized outside traditional horror circles.

Visually, horror and dark fantasy dominated the Visually Striking Film of the Year category, with Sinners, Frankenstein, and One Battle After Another all cited for their ambitious and stylized aesthetics.

Winners will be announced March 6, 2026, during the Dorian Film Awards Toast in Los Angeles—GALECA’s first in-person ceremony since 2020.
