Marvel Reportedly Scraps ‘Blade’ Solo Movie, Plans ‘Midnight Sons’ Role

The Blade solo movie may never see daylight, but fans can rest easy knowing he’ll be a part of the Midnight Sons adaptation Marvel is planning.
“He [Blade] will not be introduced in a solo movie,” trusted industry insider Jeff Sneider said on The Hot Mic. “He’ll be introduced in Midnight Sons.”
It makes a lot of sense to reintroduce the character as part of a team-up movie instead, and maybe it’ll eventually lead to a fresh solo outing. The character deserves it being that the New Line Cinema franchise was pivotal in the birth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Blade was first announced at the San Diego Comic-Con way back in 2019 with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali attached to star. Unfortunate behind-the-scenes issues delayed the project several times, leading to these new developments.

Matt Konopka recaps the history of Blade in his editorial: First appearing back in 1973 in comic The Tomb of Dracula #10, the 1998 film adaptation introduces us to Blade (Wesley Snipes). His mother bitten just before giving birth, he’s a rare half-vampire, half-human mortal. Born with a bloodsucker’s strength and the human ability to move in the daylight, he has made it his mission to hunt down every last vampire with the assistance of his mentor, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). Meanwhile, creature of the night, Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), plans on resurrecting a vampire god and obtaining ultimate power. If Blade can’t stop him, it’ll mean the bloodshed of every mortal on the planet.
At Dread, DeVaughn Taylor described Blade as “the godfather of the modern superhero genre.”
The Blade film series began in 1998 with Wesley Snipes starring as the half-vampire hero, becoming one of Marvel’s earliest successful film adaptations. It was followed by Guillermo del Toro’s masterful Blade II in 2002 and Blade: Trinity in 2004, completing a trilogy that ran through the early 2000s before the franchise ended.
Blade is also a core member of Marvel’s Midnight Sons, a supernatural-focused team introduced in the early 1990s that brings together characters who deal with vampires, demons, and occult threats. As a half-vampire with extensive combat experience, Blade frequently serves as the group’s frontline fighter and specialist against undead enemies, appearing in multiple Midnight Sons comic storylines alongside characters such as Ghost Rider, Morbius, and Doctor Strange.
