‘Wilderness Reform’ – Josh Ruben Sets Next Horror Movie Project at Paramount

Josh Ruben has been quietly building a successful directorial career in the genre space. Each film he’s helmed has a broader scope than the last. He started with the small-scale indie anthology Scare Me, followed that up with the video game adaptation Werewolves Within, and then broke into the mainstream with the holiday slasher Heart Eyes. Deadline reports that next up for Ruben is an adaptation of the Harrison Query and Matt Query (Old Country) novel, Wilderness Reform.
The film is set at a reform camp for troubled teens. But this is no ordinary scared straight setup. The organization has a history of strange goings on and mysterious disappearances.
There have been countless real-life horror stories from former penitents, er, campers who endured survival camps like the one in Wilderness Reform. There are others still who didn’t survive. The Netflix documentary Hell Camp: Teen Nightmare sounds the alarm about how unregulated these places are and highlights instances of serious bodily harm and even death.
The industry’s sordid history should give screenwriters Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman plenty to draw from. You might recognize them as the fellas who co-wrote Knock at the Cabin with M. Night Shyamalan.
Lindsey Beer and Scott Glassgold are on deck to produce. The project is being housed at Paramount.
That’s all we’ve got for you at present. While you wait for Wilderness Camp, you can currently watch Scare Me on Shudder, Werewolves Within on Tubi, and Heart Eyes on Netflix.
