Thankfully, things have stabilized significantly since the peak of the COVID pandemic, but the early days saw many of us stuck at home, with absolutely nothing to do but watch movies and TV to distract from the crippling uncertainty of those unprecedented times. During lockdown, Stephen King took it upon himself to share recommendations to help those of us confined to our four walls stay sane. I’ve checked out several of the titles he recommended during that time period. And I’m here to spread the good word about another one of his recommendations today. I’m beyond stoked at the chance to amplify King’s sentiments regarding the Prime Video original series Bosch

King has long been an outspoken fan of the show, and for good reason. The series features great characters, strong performances, and plenty of surprises throughout.

The title character, Harry Bosch(Titus Welliver), is a complex and nuanced lawman who often colors outside the lines. He finds himself embroiled in a variety of compelling cases over the course of the series. You don’t have to take my word regarding the program’s efficacy, though. See exactly what the author has to say about Bosch below. In the same post where he champions Bosch, King also offers a movie and book recommendation. Hooray for options.

Following a successful seven-season run on Prime Video, the original incarnation came to a close in 2021. However, the property was popular enough to spin off a Freevee sequel series called Bosch: Legacy. The follow-up sees Bosch retiring from the police force and putting out a shingle as a private detective. That incarnation ran for three seasons before ultimately bringing Bosch’s arc to a close. If you make it through the seven original seasons and three seasons of Legacy and still want more, you can check out the latest spinoff, Ballard, starring Maggie Q, on Prime Video next.

The Bosch character is based on Michael Connelly’s book series. The property was developed for television by Eric Overmyer. Overmyer worked as the showrunner on the first two seasons before Daniel Pyne took over in season three.

That’s all that we’ve got for you at present, dear reader. Stay tuned to Dread Central in the near future for more film and television recommendations from your favorite creators in the genre space. If you decide to check out Bosch, make sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
