EXCLUSIVE ‘Lesbian Space Princess’ Clip: Overcoming Self-Doubt And Becoming A Magical Girl

Directors Leela Varghese and Emma Hough Hobbs are bringing the ridiculous yet sincerely heartfelt queer joy in their animated sci-fi comedy, Lesbian Space Princess. This is the film every queer person (especially femmes) wished they had growing up, a film full of queer humor that isn’t afraid to poke up at the community while also crafting a genuine story about self-acceptance and escaping toxic cycles. And it’s now in select theaters!

The film’s official synopsis reads, “A heartfelt and hilarious space opera. A space princess is thrust out of her sheltered life and into a galactic quest to save her bounty hunter ex-girlfriend from the Straight White Maliens.

In honor of the film’s release, we have an exclusive clip showing our hero, Saira, confronting her self-doubt to undergo a very magical girl-inspired transformation (think Sailor Moon).

In our review of the film, Dread Central’s Mary Beth McAndrews wrote,

In a world of queer media bogged down by tragedy, Lesbian Space Princess is a breath of freaky queer joy that is never afraid to get silly, even when addressing serious topics. It’s a big hug on a bad day, a salve to temporarily soothe your aching heart. With so much adult animation dominated by straight, white male creators, Lesbian Space Princess is a shining example of what else exists out there, and the expanding queer possibilities for the medium. It’s silly, it’s beautiful, it’s the perfect soup for the queer adult’s soul.

Shabana Azeez (The Pitt) voices the titular princess, Saira. Gemma Chua-Tran, Bernie Van Tiel, Richard Roxburgh, Kween Kong, Madeleine Sami, Jordan Raskopoulos, and the comedy group Aunty Donna also lend their voices to the queer sci-fi comedy.

Lesbian Space Princess is exclusively in select theaters on October 31, 2025. It comes to digital on November 18, 2025.
